Danny Mecca’s
career in the music business practically started at birth. His
father, Danny Mecca Sr., a professional drummer and band leader,
was a lifelong music union member. This inspired young Dan to
begin playing drums at the tender age of 6, and by the time
he was 13, he was a card carrying member of local 204 in New
Brunswick, NJ. Danny played weddings, clubs and concerts throughout
the tri-state area, opening for acts such as The Dupree’s
and Larry Chance and the Earls. At that time, 1973, he was the
youngest local member and drummer they had ever seen.
Danny went on
to play drums for various bands such as Vertigo X & Bar
Busters, and then at the age of 24, he changed gears, got out
from behind the drum kit, and became a singer/songwriter for
Chanel14/Turbo TA. Dan really enjoyed being the front man, and
soon became the lead singer for Eazy, a heavy metal band playing
originals, as well as covers by bands like Rush, Van Halen &
AC/DC. Eazy played large venues and popular bars in New Jersey
and received air play on local radio stations.
In 1999, Danny
changed his musical direction and became the lead singer/percussionist
and front man for the World Famous Gashouse Gang. Though the
band has gone through several line-up changes over the years,
Danny has maintained his charismatic leadership role and has
built the most talented line-up to date. Dan Mecca continues
to inspire, as front man for Gashouse Gang, now an 8-piece musical
powerhouse, playing the best Oldies, R&B, Soul, Funk and
Rock there is to offer.
